At Alto we treat each wine as we would our exceptional flagship blend. Our winemaker Bertho van der Westhuizen produces our wines with care and passion and believes that the best compost for the vineyards is the winemakers’ footprints, which is evident in all our wines.

Our Estate blend 2016 is the perfect example of Bertho’s pristine craftsmanship; this wine reflects our Estate in so many ways and encapsulates the heritage and traditions that our wines are known for.

The Estate blend is made in a Bordeaux style and is truly Bertho’s signature blend. The 2016 vintage is an elegant and pure, full bodied style consisting of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc, 15% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. The nose shows aromas of ripe red fruits and dark chocolate nuances; the palate is full bodied yet beautifully refined with hints of pencil shavings, sour cherries and savoury spice.

Our Estate Blend 2016 was recently awarded with 93 points from Christian Eedes, the editorial director of Winemag and has been referred to as a wine that defies the expectations of the drought vintage of 2016. A fantastic wine that is benefiting from not being too youthful, it shows layers of flavour, good freshness and fine tannins while the finish is long and dry.

Only 2500 bottles of this vintage was produced and with currently less than 1000 bottles left this has proven to be great wine with exceptional aging potential. We cannot wait to see what the next vintages bring.
